ABOUT WAIHEKE
Waiheke Island is the second largest Island of the Hauraki Gulf group. It is located approximately 18km North-East of Auckland City where it is around 12 minutes flight time from Auckland International Airport. The year round permanent population of Waiheke is approximately 8000 though in the summer months this is said to rise to 25-30000.
The Island has an extremely interesting layout where East-West, it is 19.3km wide but North-South it ranges from 0.6 to 9.7km in that short distance. Its peak altitude of 758 feet above sea level reaches that in less than a mile of horizontal distance, making its relatively ‘short’ but rugged terrain a difficult one to see from below. Truly best seen from above, Waiheke’s vineyards, beaches, historic sites and homes are placed sporadically right around the Island making it quite an intricate sight to see.
The Island is renowned for many things; its wine industry, its unlike-the-city culture, its fantastic accommodation sector and its private sanctuary feel right at Auckland’s doorstep. But what makes it truly perfect is that it is fit for any purpose; whether you’re here to get together with friends and family and enjoy each other’s company or simply get away from it all and find yourself in quiet company, it’s all here waiting for you.
Below you will find just a few links through to various people and places across the Island. Should you have any questions or queries about the Island please don’t hesitate to give us a call on 0800 247 347 or +64 9 372 4480 - We're only too happy to help.
